LLM in Chinese Law

  The LL.M. (Master of Laws) program is a two-year degree program taught in English that focus both on the educational and professional experiences of the international students.

 

  About the program

I. Program Objectives
1. Applicants for the LL.M. program should be overseas students or law professionals with a bachelor’s degree who are keen on learning about Chinese law, experiencing multi-culture, and to be engaged in research on Chinese law and comparative law.
2. Students in LL.M. program are provided with opportunities to gain an in-depth understanding of Chinese legal system, history and culture, and a business environment relevant to international legal system.
3. The program aims to cultivate and train international professionals who can have a good command of and apply Chinese law. And it also aims to cultivate legal talents who can identify with Chinese culture and promote the friendly relationship between China and their home countries.
 

II. Study Duration
2 years (standard), up to 4 years.

  About SWUPL
     Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUPL) is located in Chongqing City with the most potentials in China, the upstream area of Yangtze River. Founded in 1950, it is one of the earliest established higher political and legal institutions, the first batch of key universities since the reform and opening up of China. SWUPL is the university with the largest number of legal talents in China. A large number of alumni have become backbones and leading figures in law field and other professions.
     In 2018, SWUPL’s master's degree of laws was rated as A level by China professional degree assessment of Ministry of Education(MOE), together with Tsinghua University, Wuhan University and Jilin University, becoming the only A level professional degree authorization point in Chongqing. In 2017, in the 4th round of discipline evaluation by MOE, the discipline of law was also rated as A level, together with Peking University and Tsinghua University and so on.
    SWUPL is also the key university co-administrated by Ministry of Education and Chongqing Municipality. Now SWUPL has strong international exchanges programs all over the world, with more 90 partner universities from U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Thailand, and South Korea and so on.

  About Chongqing
      Chongqing, being a strategic location for the center of China, it is one of the 4 municipalities under the direct administration of the central government with Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin, and the only one in inland China.  
      As one of the fastest growing city in the world, and one of the biggest, its population had reached 30 million in 2018. It is the important link point of “The Belt and the Road” and Yangtze River Economic Zone.
      Chongqing is particular for its beautiful mix of traditions and technologies. You can feel the folklore of the local life, while being immersed among huge complex fueled by technology.

  Tuition Fee and Accommodation Fee
      Tuition fee: 25,000RMB/year
      Accommodation fee: 4,000RMB/year/double room; 1,200RMB/year/four-bed room

  Scholarships

      The SWUPL offers to students different types of scholarships according to the applicants’eligibility and academic qualifications.
     

SWUPL President Scholarship
      Freshman Scholarship (First year):  30,000RMB
      Comprehensive Scholarship (The Second year):
      First-Class Scholarship : 30,000 RMB
      Second-Class Scholarship : 25,000RMB
      Third-Class Scholarship : 15,000RMB
     

Chongqing Municipal Government Mayor Scholarship
      First-Class Scholarship: 30,000RMB
      Second-Class Scholarship: 15,000RMB
    

Chinese Government Scholarship
      The Chinese Government Scholarship is accredited to the best international students who showed excellent results during their studies and shows great academic       potential. The scholarship can be used to cover tuition, accommodation fee, and insurance fee and there is also a living subsidy of 3,000 yuan each month.       (Notes: the application deadline for CSC scholarship is April 10 each year.)

  Requirements

 1. The applicant should have successfully completed a bachelor degree (not limited to law) or equivalent.
   2. The applicant should be no more than 40 years old.
   3. The applicant should have IELTS score (6 or above), or TOFEL score (75 or above), or the equivalent language proficiency certificate.

  How to Apply

2. Please post all the copies of application documents to our office after you finish online application.(Before June 15)
3. Application and Admission process
STEP 1: Register your account and activate it
STEP 2: Fill out the application and upload all required documents as follows
    A passport photo
    Copy of passport (the photo page)
    Copy of the notarized final degree transcript (with Notarized English or Chinese translation)
    Copy of the notarized final degree certificate (with Notarized English or Chinese translation)
    English language proficiency certificate (non-English speaking countries)
    Family financial statement
    Research proposal (no less than 1000 words)
    Recommendation letters (2 letters from professors in the related field)
    A Personal Resume
    Physical examination certificate (within latest 6 months) including blood test and chest fluoroscopy test photography

    Non-criminal record (within latest 6 months)
STEP 3: Submit the application and note your application number
STEP 4: Check your admission status regularly
STEP 5: Once pass the initial review, you will receive notice for online/offline examination and interview through e-mail after successful verification.
STEP 6: Check your admission notice
STEP 7: E-mail us to confirm the acceptance of admission to swuplrecruitment@126.com
STEP 8: Receive originals of “Admission notice” and “JW202/JW201” by post
STEP 9: Apply for VISA and send us your flight information to swuplinternstu@126.com
