LLM in Chinese Law

About the Program

The LL.M (Master of Law) program is a two-year full-time degree program taught in English that focuses both on the educational and professional experiences of the international students. Graduation certificate as well as the master degree diploma will be awarded to those who complete all the credits and complete thesis defense successfully.

This program is open to all international students who are interested in studying Chinese law and experiencing multiculturalism, and are interested in researches about Chinese law and comparative law. The program aims to cultivate legal talents to promote the mutual trade partnership and friendly relationship between China and other countries.

The students will have the opportunity to have an in-depth understanding of the Chinese legal system, legal history, legal culture, and the business environment related to the international legal system.

Scholarships

SWUPL offers students different types of scholarships according to the applicant’s eligibility and academic qualifications. And there will be annual review for each kind of scholarship candidates.

Category A or B                           Tuition, accommodation, and insurance premium are free, with living allowance of 3000 RMB per month

 (12 months in total)

First-class Scholarship 30,000RMB/Year

 

Second-class Scholarship 15,000RMB/Year

Tuition and accommodation are free, with living allowance of 1500 RMB per month

Application Criteria

The applicant should,

1. be a foreigner with a valid passport;

2. have successfully completed a bachelor degree;

3. have a valid IELTS score (6 or above), or TOFEL score (80 or above), or pass the language proficiency test in interview organized by SWUPL. Those whose mother tongue or official language is English, or those who obtain a bachelor diploma from an English speaking country are not required to provide English proficiency certificate;

4.be healthy physically and psychologically, and with good virtue.

How to Apply

2. Please post all the copies of application documents to our office after completing online application unless there are force majeure factors.Before June 1st, 2021
3. Application and Admission
STEP 1: Register your account and activate it
STEP 2: Fill out the application and upload all required documents as follows:
        A personal formal electronic photo
        Copy of passport (the photo page)
       The notarized final diploma. Prospective diploma recipients must submit official document issued by your current school to prove your current student status or expected graduation date. (If it is not in English or Chinese, please submit the Notarized English or Chinese translation)

       The notarized transcript (If it is not in English or Chinese, please submit the Notarized English or Chinese translation)
       English language proficiency certificate (non-English native speakers)
       Bank statement or work certificate
       Research proposal (no less than 800 words)
       Recommendation letters (2 letters from professors or experts in the related field)
       A Personal Resume
       Physical examination record. It must cover all of the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are considered as invalid. Notes: If you apply for scholarship, please download the scholarship application form and submit it through online application system after filling out. And all the original documents shall be brought to university for registration.

Admission

The applicants who pass the preliminary review will be notified to join the interview either off line or on line. The comprehensive interview includes professional basic theory and practice, language ability and so on with a full score of 100.

The admission will be based on the candidates' application materials and interview results. Those whose score does not reach 60 points in the interview will not be admitted.

The admission letter and visa application form will be sent by the School of International Education. The enrollment time will be written on the admission letter.

About SWUPL

Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUPL) is located in Chongqing, a famous historical and cultural city and the only municipality in the central and western regions. It is the earliest institution of higher politics and law established in New China. As a university jointly built by Ministry of Education and Chongqing Government, SWUPL is the first batch of legal talents training bases with the qualification of cultivating international students under Chinese government scholarships.

There are two Chinese-foreign cooperative education programs, including the undergraduate law program at Coventry University in the United Kingdom and the Master of Laws Program at Case Western Reserve University in the United States. It is the only university in the western region that undertakes dual-degree programs for Chinese-foreign cooperative education in academic disciplines.
